Dr. Christina Sander has been in private dermatology practice in Maroochydore on Queensland's Sunshine Coast since early 2011. Like all Queensland Dermatologists, Dr. Sander specialises in skin cancer detection and treatment.
In addition, Dr. Sander has a special interest in:, paediatric / children's skin conditions, acne, women's health dermatology / vulval diseases, cosmetic dermatology and laser treatments, 'light treatment' for psoriasis and eczema and treatment with “Biologic” drugs for severe psoriasis
From 2009- 2011, Dr. Christina Sander was the only Dermatologist in Victoria's Goulburn Valley serving a rural population of around 160,000. She was Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Melbourne. Dr Sander was admitted as a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in 2010. Between 2006 & 2009 she worked as Consultant Dermatologist at Tawam Hospital / Johns Hopkins International in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. She became a Dermatologist after completing her Specialist training in Jena, Germany and in Oxford, UK in 2005.
In 2003, she was awarded the prestigious research award “Paul Gerson Unna Prize” for her scientific contribution to the understanding of sun-induced aging of the skin. Her active academic career in Germany, in the UK and in the UAE has led to a significant number of original and review publications in leading scientific journals.
Dr Laura Wheller is a specialist dermatologist practicing at the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane.
She studied at the University of Queensland, completing a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, and Master of Epidemiology. She also completed her advanced training in dermatology in Brisbane and was awarded a Fellowship of the Australasian College of Dermatologists.
Dr Wheller has trained at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Greenslopes Private Hospital, Queensland Institute of Dermatology and Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.
Dr Wheller has a special interest in medical dermatology, paediatric dermatology, female genital skin disorders and skin cancer. She also enjoys medical research, with a particular focus on skin ageing and the effects of sun damage.
Dr. Bert Pruim has been in private dermatology practice in Maroochydore on Queensland's Sunshine Coast since early 2005. Dr. Pruim specialises in surgery & surgery-free skin cancer treatments, including the treatment of malignant melanoma & other forms of skin cancer. In addition, Dr. Pruim specialises in 'Light treatments' including 'photodynamic therapy' for skin cancer and 'phototherapy' for rashes including psoriasis and eczema. From 2000 - 2004, Dr. Pruim was the only Dermatologist resident in the Northern Territory.
He completed many years of specialist exams & training to become a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in late 1999. In 1997, at the same time as furthering his specialist training, he completed his Master of Medical Science degree with a thesis on 'Photobiological Aspects of Sunscreen Re-application' at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research.
Dr. Pruim was the first person in the world to scientifically show that regular re-application of sunscreen works to better prevent sunburn.
Dr. Pruim started his specialist dermatology training in Brisbane's major hospitals in 1994. He completed medical school at the University of Queensland at the end of 1990. Dr. Pruim grew up on the Sunshine Coast where he completed his highschool in Maroochydore in 1984.
Dr. Petros Markou has been in private psychiatry practice since 1998, and in Maroochydore on Queensland's Sunshine Coast since early 2005.
Dr. Markou manages most mental health conditions occurring in adults, specialising in anxiety disorders, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. He has specific interest and expertise in conducting medico-legal assessments, and welcomes work cover patients.
He completed five years of specialist exams & training to become a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist in late 1998, commencing his training in Canberra and completing it at Brisbane's major hospitals.
He completed medical school at Monash University in Melbourne at the end of 1989. Dr. Markou was born and raised in Melbourne where he completed his high school, moving permanently to the Sunshine Coast at the end of 2004.
