Melasma (also known as ‘chloasma’ or ‘pregnancy mask’) is blotchy brown pigmentation. Using a combination of creams and laser treatment, we can control even the most stubborn cases of melasma.
In women, melasma is usually caused by a combination of pregnancy or the oral contraceptive pill and excess sun-exposure. In men (for whom melasma is less common), melasma tends to be more subtle and is usually not associated with hormones at all.
Treatments include sunscreens and bleaching creams as well as a variety of lasers and laser-like treatments.
Melasma can be very stubborn to treat. In our experience, ‘fractionated erbium laser’ is the most predictably effective laser treatment for melasma.
